As the off-season gets closer and closer we are hearing more rumors, and the New York Knicks have enough cap space to be very active in free agency.
The Knicks have been linked to Greg Monroe back in April which he denied and they’ve been rumored to be players for Kevin Durant in 2016.
At this point though anyone will help the Knicks improve.
The Atlanta Hawks success last season came with the contributions from two players that are free agents this off-season, and will force Atlanta to get creative to add players to the roster while keeping Millsap and Carroll.
Carroll averaged career-highs for the Hawks last season and showed he can be a good defender at the small forward position.
The Hawks may have to pay up though to keep Carroll as plenty of teams will be offering him a contract which Carroll has stated he feels comfortable in Atlanta as long as they want him there.
The reason behind the Knicks rumors would be Carroll worked out with Knicks head coach Derek Fisher in the past and he could get a payday while working with someone he’s familiar with.
With the Knicks and Millsap rumors could make more sense with the team in need of a power forward who can post up and stretch the floor to fit in the triangle offense. You add DeMarre Carroll you could be creating a log jam with minutes or playing a lot of small ball.
Millsap makes sense in the quest for a post player in New York, and they can pay him whatever he wants to try and lure him out of Atlanta.
One thing is certain the Knicks need a lot of help so Phil Jackson needs to spend wisely, and spending on both Millsap and Carroll would not be wise long term.
