Get ready to hit the high seas yet again… maybe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin has been tapped by Disney to help write a new installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Alongside Mazin, Disney has also hired longtime Pirates writer Ted Elliot to work on the script for the next installment. Elliot wrote on the first four films in the franchise alongside Terry Rossio. The film’s still in extremely early development but Jerry Bruckheimer is expected to return as a producer. No director has been announced yet but, Mazin seems like a safe bet there.
Now, to be fair, similar news dropped about a year ago when Disney hired the Deadpool writers, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, to pen the sixth installment. However, those plans fell through earlier this year when Wernick and Reese back out. It’s unclear if what they were working on is being incorporated into Mazin and Elliot’s story. It’s also unclear if Johnny Depp will return to star, or even make an appearance, as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has yet to receive any inkling of a release window.
