Jacque Vaughn is the next head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Adam Wojnarowski confirmed the news earlier today.
Jacque Vaughn is no stranger to the permanent and interim head coaching tags. He served as the head coach of the Orlando Magic from 2012 through 2015 before heading to Brooklyn to be an assistant from 2016 through 2020. He also served as the team’s interim head coach in 2020 before Steve Nash took the position later that year.
Ultimately, Jacque Vaughn was elevated from assistant head coach to interim head coach when Steve Nash was fired in early November. Since Nash’s departure, Vaughn and the Nets have gone 2-2 with wins against Charlotte and Washington. Durant, Vaughn and company also lost a close matchup against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks on November 7. The team’s recent performances have been a noticeable upgrade from a 2-5 start. Next up, the Nets will take on their crosstown rival, the New York Knicks, at the Barclays Center on November 9. From there, Vaughn’s squad will head west for a road trip with stops in Los Angeles, Sacramento and Portland.
