Netflix has announced a new partnership with the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film Festival. Beginning with the 2019 Inside Out Festival, the two parties will work together over four years to promote the work of LGBTQ people in the film industry. As part of the partnership, Netflix will work with the Canadian film festival to expand its development and mentorship programs. Furthermore, Netflix will work with the festival to increase funding provided to directors of color, Indigenous backgrounds, recent immigrants, trans or non-binary and people with disabilities. Ultimately, the goal for the partnership is to increase the number of LGBTQ filmmakers at the festival and increase the odds of successful film development.
Inside Out Executive Director Andria Wilson said, “Inside Out is committed to establishing itself as the home of LGBTQ filmmakers, and this significant commitment from Netflix brings us an important step closer to making that a reality.” Netflix’s Allie Goss added, “Netflix is thrilled to be partnering with Inside Out on this important initiative.” Goss closed by saying, “We are committed to empowering Canadian LGBTQ filmmakers and content creators and providing them ongoing opportunities to share their stories with the world.”
