According to THR, amidst the chaos that is currently surrounding ‘House of Cards’, Netflix is extremely interested in creating a spinoff or multiple spinoffs in the ‘House of Cards’ universe. This news comes on the heels of the abrupt cancellation of the program after the allegations that were made against the show’s star Kevin Spacey. With the cancellation of ‘House of Cards’ now official, it’s not surprising that Netflix would be interested in carrying on the universe in some shape or form. The program single handily legitimized Netflix as a power player in the television landscape and gave the streaming service it’s first out and out dominant awards player.
The spinoffs that THR is reporting that Netflix is currently interested in pursuing involve Wall Street power brokers. Another involves Chief of Staff Doug Stamper and the bloggers and journalists who have tried to expose the criminal behavior of the original shows main characters.
While it’s certainly not the end anyone would have expected or wanted to see for ‘House of Cards’, the die-hard fans of the show shouldn’t have to wait long for more content in the HOC universe.
Season six of ‘House of Cards’ will debut in early to mid-2018 exclusively on Netflix.
