With Halloween weekend officially upon us, it’s time to get spooky! We’ve created a Top 5 list of our favorite films on Netflix that are perfect for Halloween weekend.
5. Geralds Game

Based on the Stephen King classic, ‘Gerald’s Game’ is unsettling, to say the least. The film leans more towards psychological horror than being a straight-up gore fest but that doesn’t mean it’s G rated by any means. When it gets gory, it gets gory and quick. Carla Gugino delivers the performance of her career in what is arguably the best Netflix original film to date.
4. Saw

While the ‘Saw’ franchise has become notoriously bad in it’s more recent iterations, the original ‘Saw’ is a modern horror classic. For better or worse, it reinvigorated the torture subsect of horror films for a modern audience. Also, the film was directed by James Wan who would go on to eventually become one of the biggest directors and producers working in Hollywood. Directing such films as ‘The Conjuring‘, ‘Fast 7’ and the upcoming ‘Aquaman’.
3. CUBE

While it’s certainly not the most traditional horror film on the list, ‘Cube’ might be the most memorable. It’s not the best movie, but unless you’ve seen it I guarantee you’ve never seen anything quite like it. The film centers around a group of strangers that found themselves trapped in a giant cubic maze with no idea how or why they are there. The film is not for everyone but the scares are plentiful and once the film gets into your head it’s hard to let it go.
2. The Sixth Sense

If you’re currently breathing air, then there’s a good chance that you’ve already seen ‘The Sixth Sense’. Before ‘IT‘ was released earlier this year ‘The Sixth Sense’ was the most successful horror/thriller film of all time. It redefined a genre for a generation, spawning countless knockoffs and imitators that all failed to reach the heights of ‘The Sixth Sense’. The film is a perfect blend of plot and scares and has arguably the biggest twist in the history of cinema. Whether it’s just been a minute since you’ve seen it or you’ve never seen it at all ‘The Sixth Sense’ is a perfect addition to your Halloween weekend viewing schedule.
1.The Invitation

‘The Invitation’ is one of the more criminally overlooked films of the past decade. The film is simply stunning in every way imaginable. The story is A1, the cinematography is flawless and it’s atmospheric tone will haunt you for days. ‘The Invitation’ isn’t a scare fest but instead, an honest reflection on what happens to life, friendship and relationships overtime all set on a backdrop of horror. If you get a minute this Halloween weekend to sit down and soak in a truly incredible film ‘The Invitation’ should be at the top of your list.
P.S. You’ll never be able to look at wine the same way again.
