Netflix is looking to make a major splash to start off 2018. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is in active negotiations with Paramount to acquire the next film in the ‘Cloverfield’ franchise. If Netflix can pull this off, it will be one of the defining moments in the service’s history thus far.
Netflix has been producing theatrical level content for quite some time now and recently debuted ‘Bright‘ which cost around $90 million to produce, which put’s it on par with some major theatrical releases. Although, the one thing that Netflix hasn’t been able to snag yet is a franchise that is known and has a massive theatrical draw. If Netflix is able to make this happen it will be the first time where they have a property under their belt that if released theatrically, it would undoubtedly be a hit.
Not much is known about the plot to the next ‘Cloverfield’ film, although the film was at one point referred to as ‘God Particle’. The film was supposed to debut this month but was pushed back until April, 20th 2018. There’s no word yet on if that will change if Netflix acquires the property.
