Reboot, reboot, reboot!
Actress Jamie Lee Curtis has confirmed the reboot of the Golden Globe Award-winning series Murder, She Wrote.
“Oh, it’s… happening,” the Choate Rosemary Hall graduate said. “We’re a minute away, but yeah, [I’m] very excited. Very excited. But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work.”
Premiering in the mid-1980s, Murder, She Wrote is an award-winning series following writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher as she uses a unique blend of intellect, charm, and persistence to get to the bottom of various mysteries. The hit CBS series was immensely popular during its heyday, earning two Golden Globe Awards and two Primetime Emmy Awards over 12 seasons.
However, Curtis is not the first actress to push for a Murder, She Wrote reboot. In late 2013, multiple outlets shared news regarding a planned reboot of the Angela Lansbury-led series with Octavia Spencer taking the reins with writer Alexandra Cunningham. However, Lansbury publicly pushed back against NBC’s Spencer-led reboot.
“I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote,” Lansbury said. “Because Murder, She Wrote will always be about Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person…So, I’m sorry that they have to use the title Murder, She Wrote, even though they have access to it and it’s their right.”
In January of 2014, the reboot was scrapped, leaving Lansbury “terribly pleased and relieved.”
“I knew it was a terrible mistake,” she said. “I didn’t want to sully the memory.”
