This useful app, released by New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA), provides users with real-time train arrival data for NYC subway trains. Subway riders will now have access to the information on in-station countdown clocks before they even reach the platform or station. This allows users to know exactly when their train will arrive, potentially reducing waiting time. The app gets this information from the digital-tracking sensors installed on the trains that report back real-time location data. In addition to knowing when your train is about to arrive, users will also be notified of any delays and reroutes before paying a fare. So far, this app only provides live information on seven of the 24 NYC subway lines, which covers 156 stations where the MTA has installed countdown clocks.
This app will eventually be available for both Android and Windows phones, but for now can be downloaded through Apple’s App store for free.
