The first round of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines has shipped out after approval from the Food and Drug Administration. With the help of healthcare company McKesson, the pharmaceutical company will begin distributing the vaccine across the map this week. FedEx and UPS trucks containing the vaccine were reportedly spotted in Mississippi and Kentucky on Sunday. In addition, Moderna is also supply medical professionals with kits of supplies needed to apply the vaccine.
“[I am] honored to be a partner with the U.S. government and other private-sector companies such as Moderna to support in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and the ancillary supply kits,” McKesson CEO Brian Tyler said.
Moderna’s vaccine follows closely behind the release date of Pfizer and BioNTech’s vaccine. Initial reports suggest that the Moderna vaccine was 95% effective for the general population during clinical trials. However, further reports indicated that the vaccine was only 85% effective for those over 65 years of age.
Expect the vaccine to be doled out to medical professionals and elderly Americans later this week.
