
Just before the NFL Franchise Tag Deadline, the Los Angeles Chargers have signed Mike Williams to a three-year deal worth $60 million. The deal includes $40 million in guaranteed money and one year will pay the wide receiver $28 million. Los Angeles was planning to franchise tag the wide receiver if a deal did not get done before the deadline. The two sides worked together until a deal was reached. Quarterback Justin Herbert keeps one of his top targets for a few more years at least.

The AFC West has a bright future and all four teams will be fighting hard in each and every divisional game. Mike Williams had a breakout season with 76 catches on 129 targets with 1,146 yards and nine touchdowns. In his five-year career, he has posted 227 catches on 393 targets with 3,662 yards and 26 touchdowns. He also has nine carries for 31 yards and one touchdown in his career. He was a top target for second-year quarterback Justin Herbert this year and should continue to be moving forward.

The Los Angeles Chargers were one game shy of making the 2022 NFL Playoffs but lost their final game to the Las Vegas Raiders. Los Angeles finished with a 9-8 record but showcased their potential for future seasons. The AFC West has not gotten any easier so far this offseason, but the Los Angeles Chargers are prepared to compete each and every NFL season moving forward with Justin Herbert and Mike Williams. This deal is the first major move of their future.
