Last July, Mike Scott was arrested for possessing both marijuana and MDMA (also known as Molly). Now, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the Atlanta Hawks forward is facing two counts of felony drug possession in the state of Georgia. Prosecutors have officially have officially filed a notice of accusation.
Scott has not yet stood trial but faces up to 25 years in prison for the two charges.
Scott and his younger brother were stopped last year when the former refused to yield for police attempting to stop him for following too closely to other cars. Scott drove two miles before stopping, then told officers that he had marijuana in the car. Officers then found the MDMA, as well.
The Atlanta Hawks have not spoken on the matter.
If Scott is able to get away without being imprisoned, he will almost certainly face disciplinary action from the NBA. The league, however, does not have any recent precedence for felony drug charges with the closest similar case being Raymond Felton’s four-game suspension for gun charges, as mentioned by the AJC. The forward apparently had 35.2 grams of marijuana and 10.9 grams of Molly.
We will update the situation as more details become clear and public.
