We have our first possible sighting of Sam Hinkie being shut out of doing his job. Let us hope for many more. Actually let’s just hope he gets fired how about that?
The 76ers are on pace to be one of the worst single season teams in NBA History (well they already are if you look at it in a slightly larger scope) so the hirings of USA Basketball president Jerry Colangelo and coach Mike D’Antoni can only help in the long term. The short term is virtually impossible to fix. So what can you do? Make some moves of course, which is why the Sixers traded for Ish Smith. But who thought of it? The Times-Picayune are saying that it was Mike D’Antoni that pushed for it.
Sources say newly hired Philadelphia 76ers lead assistant Mike D’Antoni is impressed with Smith’s abilities and wanted to get him on their roster. Also, sources say the Pelicans weren’t going to be able to extend adequate minutes to Smith in the rotation with Norris Cole back after missing the first 17 games of the season with a high ankle sprain.
Now for the trade itself. I’m not a fan. And the fact that they waived Tony Wroten to make room for Smith is pretty stupid in my opinion. I know McConnell has been pretty decent considering the circumstances. But Wroten was legit before his injury, way better than McConnell and Smith. Once again the Sixers blow it. Willingly giving away a possibly great player.
