The Philadelphia 76ers have waived guard Tony Wroten according to Marc Spears of Yahoo. The move comes on the heels of trading for New Orleans Pelicans point guard Ish Smith and as a result of needing to open up a roster space for the recent addition.
Wroten, who has played in only eight games this season due to an injury to start the year, has been a solid part of the team for three years. In fact, he has been one of the few consistently good players on the roster as the organization continues its long rebuild. As a result, his release comes as a bit of a surprise.
Wroten will in all likelihood be sought after by several teams. A long, athletic guard wish decent playmaking and scoring abilities can be a contributor on several teams. In fact, he may be claimed off waivers by several of those teams:
Wroten is eligible to be claimed from the following teams; BKN, POR, MIN, MIL, UTH, WAS, MIA, OKC, CLE, GSW. https://t.co/YoTqBm19Wo

Those teams have the necessary cap space to sign Wroten and his $2.1 million salary. However, if they do not feel that that salary is worth signing Wroten, he may go unclaimed at which point he would be free to sign with any team for presumably the veteran minimum.
