After missing the last 3 games for the Memphis Grizzlies, point guard Mike Conley has been diagnosed with tendonitis in his achilles, and will continue to miss time. From the team’s official announcement:
Conley has missed the last three games with left foot soreness and received an additional examination yesterday, which showed Achilles tendonitis. He will remain out and will be re-evaluated in 3 to 4 weeks.
Conley, who has appeared and started in 56 games for the Grizzlies this season, will definitely be missed. The Grizzlies have been hit with a slew of injuries this season. The team also lost Conley’s backup, Mario Chalmers, to injury, and promptly waived him. And, of course, the biggest hit to the team occurred when center Marc Gasol was ruled out for the season after undergoing surgery to repair a fracture in his right foot.
Conley will be a big name this summer in free agency. He’ll likely sign a max deal, whether with Memphis or elsewhere. Grizzlies management maintains confidence that Conley will re-up with Memphis, but he will certainly draw interest from other teams. Two teams that have already been linked to the point guard are the Knicks and the Nets.
This season, Conley has averaged 15.3 points and 6.1 assists while shooting a career-low 42.2% from the field, and 36.3% from long range.
