All eyes in the lightweight division will be on the ring inside Rod Laver Arena on Saturday night as Devin Haney battles George Kambosos Jr. for the division’s undisputed championship. However, lightweight contender Michel Rivera wants to make sure that no one forgets about him and his talent. As he prepares for his upcoming bout against Jerry Perez, Rivera already has his sights set on some of the division’s most exciting fighters.
“I want to fight Tank next. You know I have been asking for this fight for a long time now. I want to fight the best in the division. After this (fight) give me Tank or Devin Haney. I am better than both of them and it will be proven when we fight,” he said while speaking to Boxing Scene.
While Rivera is excited about his future, he does want to keep his eye on the prize. This Saturday, he’ll put his 23-0 record on the line against California native Jerry Perez at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
“Perez is a very good boxer with a good record. He has nice skills but I am ready for anything that he tries to do in the ring. I’ve trained hard and will put on a great performance,” he said earlier this week.
Rivera enters the bout as a massive favorite with -2500 odds. If he wins, he would become a prime prospect for Gervonta “Tank” Davis if the Baltimore native does not fight Ryan Garcia in late 2022 or early 2023.
