Michael B. Jordan set to join the HBO Max family. According to Deadline, Jordan’s developing an original film for the streamer with Alana Mayo through their production banner, Outlier Society. The film’s working title is Fashionably Black and the script is being written by Robin Thede and Christa Gatewood.
No actors are attached to the project yet but, Fashionably Black will follow Zoe Bankole, the world’s first black woman to become a creative director at a French design house. Getting to the top is just the beginning though as Bankole will now have to navigate the cutthroat world of high fashion to create the collection she’s always dreamed of.
Jordan’s Outlier Society is gearing up to make a big splash with its first feature release, Just Mercy. The legal drama premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in September to rave reviews and Oscar buzz for Jordan as the lead. Fashionably Black will be his first major collaboration with HBO. On Thede’s end, she’s been working with HBO for some time. Her sketch comedy series, A Black Lady Sketch Show was recently renewed for a second season at the network.
Fashionably Black has yet to receive a release date.
