It’s one thing to get a new Meek Mill album. It’s an entirely different thing to get a new Meek Mill album with a record that brings together three of the best music has to offer. On the new Meek Mill project, Championships, Meek Mill links up with Jay-Z and Rick Ross for a new track called “What’s Free?” Throughout the track, the three emcees give their perspective of what it means to be free as Black person in today’s American climate.
Meek Mill opens the track by rapping, “What’s free? Free is when nobody can tell us what to be. Free is when no one is controlling what we see.” From there, Meek touches on his recent incarceration and the feeling of still being stifled while having his freedom. Shortly after, Rick Ross comes in and delivers his own take on the matter. Ross raps, “I’ve been a top dog. That was before the K Dots.” Jay-Z comes in last and closes out the track. Delivering the most notable verse, the Roc Nation President seemingly take shots at his former collaborator and friend, Kanye West. Jay raps, “No red hat. Don’t Michael and Prince me, Ye. They’ll separate you when you’ve got Michael and Prince’s DNA. I ain’t one of these house n*ggas you bought. My house is a resort. My house is bigger than yours.”
Stream the full track above and stay tuned. This back and forth between Jay-Z and Kanye West appears to be far from over.
