Meek Mill recently headlined the third and final day of Rolling Loud in Portugal. During his set, the Philadelphia native performed his 2016 track, “Litty” featuring Tory Lanez. After finishing the song, he shared a message with those in attendance.
“That was f*cking lit,” he said.
“Free Tory Lanez too, one time.”
Video of the performance and subsequent comments circulated through social media and drew backlash from fans.
“I lost respect for Meek Mill,” one tweet reads.
“I’m sorry meek mill is a fuck*n’ weirdo for saying free Tory Lanez,” another tweet reads.
Despite the backlash, Meek Mill doubled down on his comments. The Rolling Loud headliner issued a series of statements through Threads.
“I say, ‘Free Young Thug…Free Lucci…Free [YNW] Melly.’ I don’t even know why y’all start dealing with us if y’all [are going to] try to smear us. That’s why I stick to the trenches,” the musician wrote.
“Narrative control starts every Monday. Lol. Nobody gives a f*ck [about] what these people [are] talking [about]. We [are] making real-life [changes] out here every day!”
Much like his initial on-stage statements, the Philadelphia native’s second round of comments were met with backlash.
“Protect Black women. Try that one out,” one person replied.
“It’s not allegedly. He was found guilty. Just shut up and stop with the ‘leader’ BS. You’re not a leader. You’re a strange lil boy,” another person replied.
As Meek Mill shouts about Tory Lanez, the Canadian artist remains incarcerated. In December, the singer-rapper was convicted of the following charges tied to a 2020 incident in which Megan Thee Stallion was shot: carrying an unregistered firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm and assault with a semiautomatic firearm. He faces more than a decade in jail.
