Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Gervonta “Tank” Davis may have had their fair share of differences over the years, but it appears they are all on the same page heading into the weekend. Recently, the good folks at Fight Hype caught up with the namesake of Mayweather Promotions and asked him about Tank’s upcoming showdown with Ryan Garcia. Without hesitation, the former champion shared a bold prediction for the catchweight clash.
“Ryan hasn’t won a title yet. We don’t talk about no interim belt – that don’t count. And we not taking nothing away from the guy, [Javier] Fortuna, but he was just an opponent. I’m gonna have ‘Tank’ in the best shape of his life. And just know, when he hit that boy, he ain’t gonna wake up until next year,” Floyd Mayweather Jr. told Fight Hype.
In the opposite corner, Garcia is backed by one of Mayweather Jr.’s former opponents, Oscar De La Hoya. However, De La Hoya didn’t back Garcia with the same level of confidence that Mayweather Jr. backed Davis.
“It can go either way. I always says that because both guys are so special, whoever makes the first mistake. Whoever makes the first mistake is gonna go down,” De La Hoya said, according to Bad Left Hook.
“That’s it. I don’t know if it’s gonna be Ryan or it’s gonna be Gervonta but whoever makes the first mistake is gonna go down.”
Predictions will be put to the side on Saturday when Davis and Garcia step into the ring at T-Mobile Arena on April 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
