The Dallas Mavericks aren’t expected to be buyers or sellers as the trade deadline approaches but they could be signers for the right price.
The Mavs roster and cap situation is very tight at this point and despite them not having a single All-Star this season, they find themselves in the playoff picture. After striking out on DeAndre Jordan over the summer, no one expected the Mavs to succeed with their band of replacements but in the playoff picture they sit.
Dallas might not be making a deal but they could be prime to pounce on a offensive-minded shooting guard if he becomes available. If the Minnesota Timberwolves, or any other team for that matter, buys out veteran guard Kevin Martin, he could be a player the Mavs target.
Following from Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
Mavs would have interest in Kevin Martin if he receives buyout, source says. They do not want to trade for him due to $7M owed next season.

Gettin Martin would add an interesting wrinkle to the Mavs offense. They could possibly have a high-volume scoring sixth man to come in and give either Chandler Parsons or Wesley Matthews a break while he runs around screens and catches passes from Deron Williams, Raymond Felton or Devin Harris with the second unit offense.
If the money works and the Mavs can fit him on the roster, I see no problem giving Martin a spot, especially if they don’t have to pay his full contract for next season.
