JaVale McGee went from being not talked about at all to start the season to being one of the hottest commodities in the NBA free agency market. McGee was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, played a few games there and then he was waived, free to go to any team he wants. McGee is taking his time and isn’t just joining any team that calls.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in and out of talks to possibly bring in an additional big body to help down low to join their newest acquisition, Amar’e Stoudemire. McGee’s name has been brought up by the Mavs before but now it seems like that’s no longer the case.

The Mavericks have lost interest in free-agent center JaVale McGee and aren’t seeking any more roster additions, a source told Yahoo Sports.
McGee out of the running for the Mavs is a good and bad thing. He wouldn’t get entirely too much playing time with them and he wouldn’t fit well with them either but they still lack a formidable inside presence outside of Tyson Chandler. Reportedly the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors still all have some level of interest in the often comical big man.
With his numerous and hilarious flaws, McGee is still an athletic big man who can be very serviceable in a limited role, in the right situation. He can run the floor, play defense right at the rim, block some shots and he can drop some points and grab some rebounds.
On a minimum deal, a reserve big man like McGee would be a good bench boost to almost any playoff team. The only troubling thing is the fact that he is still out there shows there is both an issue with his demands and chemistry concerns with putting him on an already cohesive unit.
