Former Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders is about a year removed from his shocking retirement at the age of 26, but he still has interest around the NBA which says a lot of his talents.
The Dallas Mavericks are looking to still improve obviously after this past summer’s DeAndre Jordan drama which left Mavs owner Mark Cuban with limited options on the free agent market to drastically improve this Dallas roster.
Larry Sanders has had issues staying on the court, playing in only 50 games his last two seasons with the Bucks just after signing a four year $44 million deal in 2013. Sanders also dealt with issues off the court tearing a ligament in his thumb after a nightclub altercation.
Prior to all of Sanders’ issues he played like one of the top defensive centers in the league averaging 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game which is why the Bucks paid the former first round pick.
The Bucks and Sanders eventually reached a buyout agreement which will pay the center for the next seven years, after Sanders decided not to return to the team and then retired.
If the Mavericks can convince Sanders to come out of retirement which could be tough to do since Sanders didn’t seem exactly motivated to keep playing the sport of basketball before he retired. Can the Mavericks get the Larry Sanders of old? Can head coach Rick Carlisle keep Sanders motivated?
Those are two big questions that Mark Cuban and Rick Carlisle will have to evaluate if talks do progress in the future.
