ESPN is reporting the Dallas Mavericks, Miami Heat, and Golden State Warriors are interested in recently waived center JaVale McGee.
McGee will clear waivers at 5pm tonight which is when he will be able to sign freely with any team he chooses.
McGee played one game for the Sixers before the team released him just in time by Sunday’s Playoff Eligibility deadline, which makes the big man from the University of Nevada eligible to play in the playoffs.
McGee, who’s basketball IQ maybe questioned, is one of the most athletic big men in the league. It’d be interesting to see him go to a team like Golden State who likes to play fast and use their athleticism. The Warriors would seem like a perfect fit.
Miami is known for signing the “under the radar center.” They brought in Chris “Birdman” Andersen a few years ago after many thought his career was over, who was a key role player on the team that won two NBA Championships.
The Heat also signed Hassan Whiteside earlier this season, who after being out of the league for a couple of years, as revitalized his career and looks like one of the more promising young center’s in the game. Miami could be a good fit for JaVale if he’s trying to improve his game.
Dallas and JaVale could be a great fit defensive wise. The Mavs defense is ok at best. They have a great rim protector in Tyson Chandler, who gets hurt often. McGee would be insurance for the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year, as JaVale is known for some emphatic blocked shots.
Something that could be interesting to see if McGee were to sign with the Mavs, putting Chandler and JaVale on the floor together. The team might struggle on the offensive end, as neither player is really a threat on that end of the floor, but defensively, especially in the paint, the twin towers together would be something.
Maybe not the most skill wised player, McGee can definitely help a team looking to make a deep playoff run.
