The Dallas Mavericks were going into a scary free agency after getting eliminated by the Houston Rockets in the first round in 5 games. They had the majority of their teams as free agents and Rondo was definitely not going to return after his fights with the organization. So they didn’t have a point guard for the future, and no really clue who’s coming back. After 2 days in the free agency passed, it was clear, Rondo, Chandler and Ellis would not be returning. Leaving Mavericks fans frantic with an aging Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons.
On the 4th day, the Mavericks were given a DeAndre Jordan. Jordon agreed to sign a 4-year, $80 million dollar deal with the Mavericks, leaving Chris Paul and Blake Griffin in Los Angeles. DeAndre elected to sign with the Mavericks because he was said to be the ‘big man’ in their and his friend Wesley Matthews also signed. The Mavericks are only really looking for a starting point-guard that can lead the team, but other than that, their bench and starters don’t look that bad. Now they can look to the future, with some prospects of being a good team in the West next year and money to sign even more players if they need to, what will the Mavericks do now?
According to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated:
With DeAndre Jordan on board, Mavs now believe they can be a significant player for the biggest free agent prize next summer: Kevin Durant.

The biggest prize of 2016 will be Kevin Durant, and I believe that all teams that can afford him, will try to go for him and that point it’s all up to Durant to pick. Durant has been mentioned in joining the Wizards, Raptors and Lakers before and now you can add the Mavericks to the chase. Of course, OKC will be in the running to, but with the Thunder essentially have one year to prove to Durant they can win, the chances of him staying in OKC is getting less and less. Can we see Durant in a Maverick jersey in 2017?
