Matthew Dellavedova has been shockingly incredible this postseason, particularly in the finals. He has had to play in lieu of injured Kyrie Irving. In Irving’s place, Delly has been superb. He has hounded MVP Stephen Curry every relentlessly when on the floor, even if Curry denies that he has been ‘locked up’. Cavs’ fans love Dellavedova the same way that Grizzlies fans love Tony Allen and the same way that Celtics’ fans loved Jae Crowder this offseason. It’s those hustle guys who never quit on a play that fans can’t help but cheer on. The guys diving for loose balls and never giving up on defense. That’s what Dellavedova has been for Cleveland.
Now, Dellavedova’s hometown of Maryborough has decided to honor Delly’s play by naming a basketball stadium after him.
From 3AW 694 News Talk’s Jake Bourke:
RUMOUR CONFIRMED: The quiet town of Maryborough is planning on renaming its basketball stadium the “Dellavedova Dome” in honour of local star Matthew Dellavedova.
Personally, I’m crossing my fingers that the name “Dellavedova Dome” isn’t set in stone, because the name “Dellave-Dome-a” would be so much better.
Anyways, there are probably going to be tons of people saying that Delly’s being given too much credit, and doesn’t deserve this honor. Honestly though, why not name it after him? Who else from Maryborough, Australia are they going to name it after? I’m sure in the eyes of the small town it’s considered an amazing achievement just to make it to the NBA. Dellavedova has not only made it to the NBA, but is a factor in the NBA Finals. Go crazy, Maryborough. Hell, why not rename the town “Dellyborough?”
