Former Carolina Panthers Head Coach Matt Rhule has filed a lawsuit against the team for about five million dollars of “offset severance compensation”. Rhule was fired by the team mid-season and during the college, football offseason signed to be the Head Coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. According to reports, Rhule is seeking money that he believes the Carolina Panthers still owe him after firing him this past season. To represent him in the case he has hired New York City employment attorney John Singer of Singer Deutsch LLP. This case will head to arbitration in the following weeks or months.

In less than three seasons as the Head Coach of the Carolina Panthers, Matt Rhule led the program to an overall record of 11-27. He did not reach the NFL Playoffs in his first two seasons and finished third and fourth in the NFC South in those two years. The Panthers fired him in his third season after a 1-4 start to the season. Rhule then became the next Head Coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. This lawsuit is disputing an unnamed amount of money but is right around five million dollars. Both Rhule’s legal team and the Carolina Panthers declined to comment when asked.
