Mary J. Blige and Pepsi Co. have teamed up for another community-based endeavor. Building upon the work they have done with the Strength Of A Woman Festival, the legendary singer has partnered with the world-renowned beverage brand to launch a scholarship fund for women studying at Hampton University in Virginia. The “Strength Of A Woman” scholarship will provide each recipient with a $30,000 grant that can be used to support their educational pursuits.
“The whole mission of this festival is to celebrate and advocate for Black women, so to have Pepsi show up and show out in the way they do is overwhelming,” Blige said.
“With their support for the Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit, we are able to pay it forward in so many impactful ways and to be able to grant an HBCU scholarship for a deserving student is nothing short of incredible.”
Mary J. Blige is the latest music legend to offer financial support for scholars at Hampton University. Last fall, Missy Elliott launched a $20,000 scholarship fund at the historically Black University.
“Missy Elliott hails from Portsmouth Virginia, and we thought it fitting that her contribution allowed us to fund this important scholarship for students,” National Hampton Alumni Association Atlanta Chapter President George White said.
“We are so excited to able to help students with the funding this contribution will allow.”
