HBO Max is moving full steam ahead with new original content ideas. According to Deadline, the upcoming streamer has tapped Marth Plimpton to star in the half-hour dramedy pilot Generation.
Created by 17-year-old Zelda Barnz and her father Daniel Barnz, Generation tells the story of a group high school students exploring their sexuality. The students will be led by a yet-to-be-cast sibling duo, who’s mother Megan will be played by Plimpton. Megan’s deeply conservative values will be tested by her children as they discover how they fit within the scope of modern sexuality.
Lena Dunham is producing the pilot through her recently-announced Good Thing Going production banner at HBO. Daniel Barnz is also producing alongside Ben Barnz through their aptly-titled We’re Not Brothers Productions. Zelda Barnz will be serving as a co-producer on the project. Marissa Diaz is also going to be producing the project for Good Thing Going Productions.
Generation is just the latest HBO Max announcement aimed squarely at a Millenial and under audience. Gossip Girl is getting rebooted for a modern audience on the streaming service. HBO Max also scored the exclusive rights to both Friends and The Office in an attempt to attract a younger crowd when it launches next spring.
Generation has yet to be picked up to series.
