It’s been a rough day for (former) Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mario Chalmers. From ESPN’s Marc Stein:
Memphis just made it official, announcing Mario Chalmers (torn Achilles) is out for the season and has been waived to create a roster spot

Ouch. Finding out that you’re injured for the season, and that you’ve been waived all in one day? That’s gotta be tough.
From the Grizzlies’ official announcement:
“Mario did an incredible job for us since coming to Memphis,” Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace said. “Right from the start, he embraced his change of scenery and endeared himself to his teammates and coaches on the court and the Memphis community off of it.”

Chalmers has thrived since being traded to Memphis, averaging a career-high 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 22.8 minutes per game. It’s a shame to see Chalmers go down with an injury at this point in the year. He’s a good role player, and will surely find a role on a new team next season. It’s unfortunate for Memphis, though. This coming less than a month after Marc Gasol was ruled out for the season with a foot injury.
