Five-time GRAMMY Award-winning recording artist Mariah Carey has reportedly inked a “multi-album deal” with gamma., a modern media and technology enterprise led by former Apple Music and Interscope Records executive Larry Jackson. Carey told Jabari Young of Forbes that she’s “excited” to work with Jackson’s gamma. because she believes he’s building an enterprise that expands “beyond music.”
“What Larry Jackson is building at Gamma,” she told Young. “is beyond music. It’s a cultural shift, and I’m excited to be part of something that honors legacy while pushing boundaries. This next chapter is about owning my narrative and creating freely on my own terms.”
Carey is currently working on her 16th album and recently released a new single called “Type Dangerous.” The album, which does not yet have a release date, is expected to be produced by Antonio “L.A.” Reid with contributions from Anderson .Paak.
“It is a game-changing moment because it’s one of our premier stars who has made a decision to join forces with an independent, self-contained company that is not associated with any of the major labels,” Reid told Young. “It’s a game changer for both Gamma and Mariah.”
News of the deal arrives in conjunction with her appearance at the 2025 BET Awards. On Monday, June 9, 2025, Busta Rhymes presented the Ultimate Icon Award to Carey at the 2025 BET Awards. Carey, along with Kirk Franklin, Snoop Dogg, and Jamie Foxx, were honored for their contributions to culture, community, and entertainment through their music, creativity, and artistic work.
