The Phoenix Suns traded Marcus Morris to the Pistons this past summer with the intention of legitimizing themselves in the LaMarcus Aldridge free agency sweepstakes. Morris wasn’t necessarily pleased by the move, which also separated him from his twin brother, Markieff.
Morris had a chance to play against his former team in Phoenix for the first time on Friday night. He finished with 20 points as the Pistons took a 100-92 victory. Morris notably received his fair share of boos throughout the game, which he responded to in his postgame interview:
Morris continued his thoughts on boos from the Suns fans in the locker room, comparing them to Pistons fans, via Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:
“(Expletive), everybody heard them,” he said to laughter in the visitor’s locker room at Talking Stick Resort Arena. “It was light. It wasn’t (expletive). If it was in Detroit it would have been better.
“If Detroit was booing somebody it would have been way better. They don’t even know what they doing. They don’t even know why they booing.
“They just out there booing me. It was trash. I thought it would be a little bit better than that.”
Indeed, Pistons fans are historically known to be more brutal than Suns fans. In Morris’ defense, booing him to begin with was a bit pointless. Those antics are usually reserved for players who knowingly spited the team and left on their own accord. Morris was traded as part of an organizational agenda. Either way, Morris won this battle with Suns fans in more ways than one.
