The number one overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft was either going to be Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston. The future quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise for the next few years was going to be selected with this pick.
It was between the two former Heisman winners, Marcus Mariota out of Oregon or Jameis Winston out of Florida State.
At the end of the day, the Bucs selected Winston and let Mariota fall to number two with the Tennessee Titans.
So of course, the NFL schedules has to put these two teams up against each other to see who shines in their first career NFL game.
The game was played in Tampa Bay so a home game should be a welcoming arrival for Winston. Unfortunately for Bucs fans it was Mariota who looked like he was right at home.
When all was said and done, Mariota ended up making Bucs fans wish they could re-do the draft because he shined in Tampa Bay.
Mariota went 13-16 for 209 yards and four touchdowns while Winston went 16-33 for 210 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Not to mention Winston’s first career NFL pass was a pick six which gave the Titans an early lead.
It’s ok though because the last quarterback to begin his career with a pick six was Brett Favre and his career ended up going pretty well.
