One of the more disappointing teams this season has been without a doubt the Memphis Grizzlies. Though they lost a chunk of their frontcourt production to free agency in Zach Randolph, this campaign has been marred with a devastating injury to point guard Mike Conley and the early season head coach firing of David Fizdale.
Through the adversity, All-Pro center Marc Gasol has remained outspoken and honest. As the veteran leader, Gasol carries a unique burden and in previous years has done a stellar job keeping Memphis relevant. This season has been different however and Gasol is first to acknowledge just how frustrating it has been. Video courtesy of Commercial Appeal:
In the video, Marc Gasol calls out players who are still developing, perhaps referring to the younger players on the team. There has been a lot made of the accountability and effort with Memphis this season and as a consistent veteran, Gasol’s frustration is only increasing.
With this season a wash, the Grizzlies have to look ahead and focus on what will undoubtedly be a busy offseason. The stellar play of Tyreke Evans has quite possibly been the lone bright spot for the team this season but even that likely won’t last. With his free agency looming, chances are Evans ups and leaves the franchise that openly shopped him during this past trade deadline.
Gasol himself still has two years remaining on his contract so the core of he and Mike Conley will likely remain intact. On the season, Gasol is posting his usual solid individual numbers with 17.7 points per game to go along with 8.5 rebounds and 4 assists.
