The newest player to declare for the 2017 NBA Draft is Malik Monk out of the University of Kentucky. Monk announced he was leaving for the NBA through the Players Tribune.
“Today, I’m declaring for the 2017 NBA draft.”
In his one season with the Kentucky Wildcats, Malik Monk averaged 19.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, shot 45.7 percent overall, and 39.7 percent from beyond the arc. His list of achievements include being named the SEC Player of the Year and a selection to the Wooden Award Finalists.
Monk is widely considered a top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. In Def Pen’s latest mock draft, Monk is selected with the 10th overall pick. One team that has been open about their interest in the guard out of Kentucky is the New York Knicks. They are reportedly keeping an eye on Monk and French guard, Frank Ntilikina.
After helping lead his Wildcats to the Elite 8, Malik Monk decided it was time to go. He wasn’t the only Wildcat to declare, though. De’Aaron Fox has already decided he is entering the draft.
Malik Monk led the SEC in minutes played, field goals made, points scored, three-point percentage, three-point attempts and makes, and points produced.
