I think Mahershala Ali might be having a ‘moment’ right now. Though, I guess it’s hard to call it just a moment when he’s been popular for years. Regardless, he’s definitely hitting his stride right now.
Fresh off that huge Blade reveal during Marvel’s Comic-Con panel, Ali has signed on to appear in season 2 of Hulu’s Ramy. Created by Ramy Youssef, Ramy follows the titular character as he navigates his own spirituality and the politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood where he lives. Season 2 will see Ramy find a new Muslim community as he tries to further devote himself to the tenets of Islam. Ali will appear as a “special guest star” in the second season.
Already this year Ali’s got a Golden Globe, an Oscar, an Emmy nomination, a mind-bending season of True Detective, and a surprise Comic-Con appearance/announcement under his belt. Add in his role from Alita: Battle Angel and this Ramy news and Ali may be having an all-time great year for a Hollywood star. He’s also set to produce and star in the upcoming prison drama, Solitary. Needless to say, Ali will be staying pretty busy over the next few years.
Ramy season 2 is expected to premiere on Hulu sometime in 2020.
