Magic Johnson, in an interview with ESPN, divulged some info regarding the Lakers offseason strategy. The Lakers have been public about their desire for a star but it is nice to hear a calm calculated approach from Magic. This offseason is weak in talent and the Lakers are weaker at being an attractive free agent destination. Their youth movement brings a promising future but most big time free agents don’t move cities to wait. So, Magic sees Los Angeles signing more free agents in the following offseason.
“We do have cap space”
“I’m really looking to keep the cap space that we have and really try to play in next years free agent class and not this years free agent class.”
The Lakers would have better luck after another season of play. It would also give them a chance to sign the oft rumored future free agent, Paul George. His links to the Lakers have been frequent and consistent this past year. This is just another large green blinking arrow pointing right at the two teaming up.
