The Orlando Magic are currently sitting at a record of 16-24 and are the 12th seed in the Eastern Conference. After starting the season with Elfrid Payton as their starting point guard, the Magic have since replaced him with D.J. Augustine. Wanting badly, to get back into a wide-open playoff race, the Magic are reportedly interested in trading for Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic, who is very available.
Following from Zach Lowe of ESPN
Teams will express interest in Dragic ahead of the trade deadline — a bunch, including the Magic, already did, per league sources — but Miami can hold out for a hefty return. They gave up a ton for Dragic, and they’d need to save face in any teardown trade.
With an expendable backcourt and an allure of big men, the Magic could be big time players for the services of Dragic. Without an established playmaker, Dragic could come right in and have command of the Orlando offense almost right away. Subsequently, the challenge moving forward would be selling Dragic on staying in Orlando after the 2018-19 season.
Whatever the case may be, the Orlando Magic are apparently unhappy with the spot they’re currently sitting in and are looking to do something about it. Maybe an established playmaker is what the Magic need to put them back into playoff contention. This makes for yet another interesting story line to follow come trade deadline in the NBA.
