The Orlando Magic have their Point Guard of the future in Elfrid Payton, and to help develop their No. 10 overall pick they need a good mentor on the roster. Luke Ridnour in his 11 year career has seen his ups and downs. Overall though he has had some success in this league, and would help boost the development of their Point Guard which should help out. Ridnour’s deal is a two year deal with the second year non-guaranteed with the salary not being determined.
The Orlando Magic have been rebuilding, but with this summers free agency I’m left a bit confused on why their signing all guys in their 30’s. They certainly aren’t being shy about the contract offers as well with signing Channing Frye to a 4 year $32 million dollar deal earlier this month and signing Ben Gordon for two years and $9 million dollars. It’s clear they’re signing outside shooters, but surprised they’re adding them so early in the rebuild process. If they were a player away I’d understand, but Orlando isn’t even sure what they have in Payton yet, but with Oladipo and Vucevic as their only sure fire players on their rosters you’d think they’d be involved in the bigger named free agents.
Out of all the signings Orlando has made this off season this is the best one by far. Ridnour will help be the floor general for Orlando which they greatly need after Jameer Nelson being let go and trying Oladipo at the Point Guard position which in my opinion isn’t where he belongs. If he can provide them with the stats he had in Minnesota which was his best years in my opinion I think Orlando got themselves a steal, but with a disappointing year in Milwaukee and Charlotte last year it hurt his stock in free agency. Lets hope he provides the Magic with a little bit of everything until Elfrid Payton is ready to sit in the driver seat of the Orlando Magic.
