The two were leaving the stadium after playing a game in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League when the accident occurred. According to reports, the two were traveling on the way to a game on Friday when they swerved into the other lane trying to avoid a sliding rock.
Valbuena spent 11 seasons in Major League baseball, playing for the Angels, Mariners, Indians, Cubs, and Astros. He spent his final two years with the Angels who released him in August. During his 2018 stint with the Angels, Valbuena hit .199 with nine homers and thirty-three RBI’s. Castillo spent four years in the Majors with the Pirates, Giants, and Astros. Earlier this year, the league lost three Cincinnati Reds prospects to a tragic car accident as well, so it is not the first time the league has experienced a tragic loss just this offseason.
