This year, Juneteenth will be celebrated as a federal holiday for the first time in U.S. history. In honor of this unique moment in American history, Crown Royal is hosting the Juneteenth Unityfest. The three-hour-long celebration will feature virtual performances from Lucky Daye, India.Arie, Ledisi and Earth, Wind & Fire. Hosted by Amanda Seales and JB Smoove, the event will also feature appearances from Wayne Brady, Phylicia Rashad, Jesse Williams and Billy Porter.
“Juneteenth Unityfest is a national livestream event conceived by Grammy-nominated African-American artist Robert Randolph, that will bring together people of all backgrounds in a day of unity to commemorate and celebrate Juneteenth and Black culture with musical performances, inspiring remarks, films, comedy, storytelling, and appearances by civic leaders and influencers,” Crown Royal wrote about the event.
In addition to performing at Juneteenth Unityfest, Lucky Daye will continue to work with Crown Royal on their growing Black art preservation project. Together, they are working to fill various media spaces across the country with the work of Black artists.
“It’s important to preserve Black art and shine a light on it because at the end of the day, the people who go through the most have the most to say and that’s not just in terms of word quantity, but quality,” Lucky Daye told AfroTech about his new partnership.
