Former UCLA standout Lonzo Ball will be a top selection in this year’s NBA Draft. As soon as he declared for the NBA Draft minutes after losing in the NCAA Tournament, the rumors started flying about where the high-profile player will land. Many teams are well underway tanking this season with the hopes of grabbing the young point guard. In an interview on ESPN’s “First Take”, Ball answered some questions about how he feels heading into the NBA and the teams that may select him.
To paraphrase, Ball would be grateful to land with whatever team selects him. That is a pretty standard answer for a young player. Reaching their presumed life-long goal of making it to The Association is emotional, and being picky about the team that drafts them is not on the front burner. However, with the Lakers expected to land a top three pick in this year’s draft, the prospect of being drafted to Los Angeles is very enticing for Lonzo.
Ball says it would be “a blessing” to play for the Lakers because of his ties to the team and it being so close to home for him. Whether he prefers the Lakers or not over other teams is not known. However, it isn’t disputed that it would be a cool experience to play in the area you grew up in. We already know that his father, Lavar, prefers the Lakers to take him.
