The Louisville Metro Police Department has released nearly 5,000 files from its internal investigation regarding the death of Breonna Taylor. The newly released files include interview transcripts, personnel records and much more. Most notably, the newly released files contain body camera footage from the SWAT team that entered Taylor’s apartment immediately after the shooting.
In the newly released footage, a SWAT team appears to move throughout the apartment for several minutes as Taylor’s body lays in the hallway. At one point, members of the SWAT team appear to check her pulse and say, “She’s gone.”
Also, the newly released footage appears to show the moments immediately after Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, realized that his girlfriend has been killed.
“Who else is in the apartment?” an officer asks Walker.
“Nobody, my girlfriend’s dead,” he responds.
“We have to be mindful of what we say, we are on camera now,” another officer says.
As the files were released, a judge was nearby hearing arguments in the case of a grand juror who examined the case. There is an ongoing legal battle regarding whether or not the grand jurors will be able to make public statements regarding the case. The movement to speak out comes just a week after audio recordings of the grand jury hearings were released.
