Lil Wayne visited the Drink Champs podcast to discuss his new album Funeral, rising Hip-Hop acts and memorable career moments.
Self-described as “The Most Professional Unprofessional, Podcast” Drink Champs hosted by N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN explores interesting conversations with even more interesting guests. Lil Wayne proved to be provocative company, dishing on his rap preferences, mistaking Hip-Hop artists for groups, and learning of text messages between N.O.R.E. and Jay-Z about his rap skills.
Lil Wayne, is known for taking the beats of other artists and making them his own at the height of his mixtape era. In reference to Lil Wayne’s “Dough Is What I Got” freestyle, over Jay-Z’s “Show Me What You Got,” the Brooklyn rapper apparently questioned the level of his own skills.
“When he rapped on ‘Show Me What You Got,’ I had to take a long walk and look at myself in the mirror,” said Jay-Z in messages to N.O.R.E. Lil Wayne, learning this information, confirmed although he did not hear those exact words, Jay-Z acknowledged his skill.
During the conversation, Lil Wayne also admits to once believing 21 Savage was a group with 21 individual rappers as members. The New Orleans rapper also failed to initially recognize what Top Dawg Entertainment and Quality Control Music were.
“I’m into me and me only, man.” declares the rapper as the group continues their spirited conversation.
Lil Wayne will be performing in Miami at “Delano Live Presented by TIDAL” on Friday, January 31st to kick off his Super Bowl weekend. The rapper is also due to perform this May at the Beale Street Music Festival.
Drink Champs adds to the growing list of content that TIDAL offers in support of its efforts to shift the culture.
