Actor LeVar Burton will be the next host of Jeopardy! if he has anything to say about it. Recently, a fan started a petition for Burton to become the next host of the legendary game show and he’s on board with it. Over the course of a few months, the petition has garnered nearly 180,000 thousand signatures and it is closing in on its goal of 200,000 signatures total. Burton recently tweeted out a link to the petition and wrote, “Leaving this here in the event the powers that be are listening.”
“Between hosting 21 seasons of the educational Reading Rainbow, playing the brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and filling the roll of Kunta Kinte in the ever-important mini-series Roots, LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds,” the petition reads.
“This petition is to show Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. and producers Mike Richards and Harry Friedman just how much love the public has for Burton, and how much we’d all love to see him as the next host of Jeopardy!”
If Burton truly wants the job, he will face some stiff competition. Currently, Super Bowl-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers is working on the show as a guest host and he appears to be extremely interested in the gig.
Thus far, the network nor executives of the show have shared when they’ll make a decision to name a replacement for the legendary Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek.
