Lee Daniels has launched a global joint venture with Warner Music. Together, Daniels and Warner Records will introduce a music imprint named after the critically-acclaimed producer. The joint venture will reportedly include “soundtracks, as well as artist signings.” Thus far, the duo has unveiled The United States vs. Billie Holiday soundtrack. The 13-track project included music from Raphael Saadiq, Duke Ellington and several others. It debuted at 137th on the Billboard 200 chart and won the “Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media” category at the Grammy Awards.
“At Warner, we’ve built a thriving environment for creative pioneers and inspired entrepreneurs. Lee is an artistic visionary who has crafted some of the most powerful, moving, and captivating works of our era. Music has always figured prominently in his productions, driving the narrative of great films such as Precious and The Butler,” Warner Records CEO Max Lousada said.
Daniels is not new to the world of music. Prior to launching a joint venture with Warner Records, he played an integral role in popular music-based TV series like Empire and Star.
“I am always looking for new ways to expand and grow. I’m a filmmaker first and foremost, but, theater and music are also such passions of mine. I’m excited to be teaming up with Warner Music. It’s yet another way for me to keep pushing myself creatively,” Daniels added.
“The United States vs. Billie Holiday is just the beginning!”
