Happy Birthday LeBron James!
The drama continues to pile on in Cleveland. First, the Cavs were decimated by a lowly Detroit Pistons team, then, reportedly, the Cavs players and coach David Blatt weren’t exactly seeing eye to eye with LeBron not sounding too confident in Blatt and now there maybe be cause for concern in the future.
Now, according to reports, LeBron James may do the dastardly thing to the city of Cleveland and leave again. The NBA is a business and if you’re in LeBron’s position, you have to understand.
The following from Chris Haynes of Cleveland.com
James, who turns 30 today, has no intention of compromising his prime years playing for a sputtering organization. He can opt out of his contract at the end of the season and become a free agent.
Given the massive scrutiny he would endure if he departed Cleveland a second time, if his hand is forced, I’m told he won’t hesitate to make the appropriate business decision if it means bolting.
IF and that’s a big IF, LeBron James does leave Cleveland for a second time, he may not be allowed back in the state of Ohio ever again. This time might hurt a little less for Cleveland as you can understand that a guy who’s NBA clock may be close to the end rather than the beginning would leave for a better opportunity. He structured his contract this way so he could opt-out after this season, if he elected to do so.
It was first thought he signed this deal to be ready for the new huge TV deal coming in 2016 so that’s why Cleveland only agreed to a 2 year deal with him. LeBron isn’t dumb, he’s a business man and if the Cavaliers continue to sputter and under-perform with the wealth of talent at his disposal, don’t be surprised if he disappears out of Cleveland. Don’t forget, Kevin Love also can opt out after this season as well.
It’s all business, nothing personal.
