“I got to think about it,” Los Angeles Lakers Forward Anthony Joshua told ESPN in May when asked if he would retire after the 2023 NBA Playoffs.
Well, it appears that the four-time NBA Champion has had enough time to think about it and he’s come to a decision. During the 2023 ESPY Awards, the Ohio native all but confirmed that he will return to the hardwood this fall.
“I don’t care how many more points I score or what I can or cannot do on the floor,” he told the crowd as he accepted the 2023 ESPY Award for “Best Record-Breaking Performance.”
“The real question for me is: Can I play without cheating this game? The day I can’t give everything on the floor is the day I’ll be done. Lucky for you guys, that day is not today.”
LeBron James has the opportunity to break another record in the near future. This season, he will join Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett, Robert Parish, Kevin Willis and Vince Carter as the sixth player in NBA history to play 21 or more seasons. Vince Carter holds the record with 22 seasons. If he finished out his two-year deal with the Lakers, he will tie Carter’s record and have the ability to break it during the 2025-206 NBA Season at the age of 41.
