Though arguably the most talented player in the NBA for the greater part of the last decade, LeBron James doesn’t limit his impact to just basketball. James has always been exceptional at multiple things and he has only become more well-rounded as his career goes on. The 14-year-old veteran has used his global popularity to put the spotlight on certain political issues and has also begun to make waves in the entertainment industry.
James already has a few TV series under his belt with his production company, Springhill Entertainment including another on the way and now, you can add to that list. According to Variety’s Justin Kroll, James, Springhill Entertainment, co-founder Maverick Carter, and Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer are collaborating on an upcoming Netflix TV series that documents the life of Madam C.J. Walker:
NBA superstar LeBron James is continuing to make moves off the court. James’ production company, SpringHill Entertainment, is adding the first scripted drama to its growing slate. The project also boasts Oscar-winning talent: Octavia Spencer.
Spencer is attached to star in the limited series about entrepreneur and social activist Madam C.J. Walker’s life, with James exec producing along with his company’s co-founder, Maverick Carter.
Sources tell Variety that Netflix is interested in the series and is the likely destination.
Madam C.J. Walker was an iconic activist who was the daughter of slaves with her lifetime spanning during the late 1800’s and into the early 1900’s. Walker was an important figure in black history and with all the turmoil the country is currently in, LeBron thinks it’s important that everyone knows her powerful story:
“I am really proud of this project and that SpringHill will be partnering with Octavia to tell this important story,” James said. “Every American should all know the story of Madam C.J. Walker. She was an innovator, entrepreneur, social activist, and total game changer whose story has been left out of the history books. I hope this project lives up to her legacy with a story that will educate and inspire.”
With James continuing to aspire to go after off-court endeavors, we should see him and his company’s name be brought up more and more in the TV world. With a recognizable actress set to play a major role in Octavia Spencer, expect LeBron’s Netflix series to gain popularity right off the bat.
