LeBron James, Maya Moore, Trae Young and many others have spearheaded the uber-successful More Than A Vote campaign. Through their efforts, they have raised money for nonprofits, informed citizens about the voting process and much more. Heading into the weekend, the group has crossed another major milestone. Alongside the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the organization’s “We Got Next” initiative has attracted 10,000 volunteers to work at poll sites this November.
“We marched. We demanded justice. Now, we’re ensuring our voices will be heard on Election Day,” the James led organization wrote.
Moving forward, the organization will look to recruit more volunteers in specific cities that are citing poll worker shortages. Cities like Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Flint, Detroit Cleveland and Charlotte are in need of additional volunteers. Now, the two parties are calling on residents to get involved.
“There’s still more work to do. Some communities of color face dire poll worker shortages. Join over 10,000 people who’ve raised their hand,” More Than A Vote tweeted.
“We need more poll workers, and we need younger poll workers who can be resilient and work during early voting as well,” Sherrilyn Ifill of the NAACP Legal Defense Funds added
